History
Edward Symmons is a multi-disciplinary property and asset consultancy dedicated to providing our clients with solutions.
Born out of Teddy Symmons’ war-time role assisting the Ministry of Defence in identifying sites for airfields, Edward Symmons (ES) was founded in 1943.
By the 1950s ES was also valuing plant and machinery, a discipline in which the Machinery and Business Assets (MBA) division now leads.
During the 1960’s and 1970’s the firm saw a period of rapid growth in an active insolvency market. Although London based, ES soon became a national player, and opened in Manchester in 1975 and subsequently in Liverpool, Bristol, Southampton, Leeds, Plymouth and finally in Birmingham in 2004.
In the late 1970s a Valuation Services Division was successfully developed, which is now represented on the panels of over 70 banks in the UK and is a founding member of the European alliance, Valliance (2007).
Over the last twenty years, the firm has adopted a more aggressive growth strategy. Investment has been made in sectors such as Hospitality and Leisure, Healthcare, Agency and Investment, Building Consulting and Corporate Services.
The Machinery and Business Asset division has experienced significant growth with the acquisition of John Foord & Co in 2006. More recently, we have introduced an Asset Based Lending team which means we are now uniquely placed to advise on a full spectrum of collateral against which funding can be secured.
Edward Symmons' most recent highlight has been the acquisition of leading north east based property firm storeys:ssp in December 2011. Storeys:ssp gives us expert exposure and coverage within the North East property market and has enabled us to strengthen our Agency offering in this area, along with bringing a renowned Rating Services team and a Property Management division.
In recognition of the storeys:ssp brand, this part of our business will trade as Storeys Edward Symmons. For more information on our newly expanded range of services please contact Paul Proctor.
